because first times deserve to be recorded:
12:30 sitting in my plush leather A380 Business Class seat sipping champagne from an elegant stemless flute (definitely a bad idea before a flight on an empty stomach and little sleep for someone who has taken years to combat motion sickness); already ordinarily lovely SQ air stewardesses being even more polite and welcoming; Economy Class passengers walking past, 'oh that is excessive', 'why would anyone need such a wide seat?', 'that's just cruel, making us walk past Business Class', thinking 'who is this stupid kid in the crappy clothes tapping away at her US$ 500 Dell laptop?' i open the papers and read the comics in the Life! section.
12:40 air stewardess came by, adressing me by name, to apologise for a missing tray panel at my seat (i hadn't noticed), and helped me move my bags to the seat behind. explored these tray panels -- the one with mirrors is brilliant.
movie choice so far: Black Swan (kenny: why would you do that to yourself??!?). The Blind Side. True Grit? it's going to be an intense flight. might need to watch The King's Speech again just to mix it up a bit.
13:50 'Prelude' to lunch was:
Satay
With onion, cucumber and spicy peanut sauce
sauce was not spicy, but was at least nice and peanuty; definitely a notch up from Satay (Peanut) or (Sambal) Chilli/(Black) Pepper. air stewardess helped me bring up the table, which is comparable in size to a school desk.
14:05 table has been laid with tablecloth and set for lunch. delicious Starter:
Assorted Asian appetiser
Salmon tataki with ikura and wasabi mayo, Thai style chicken and pomelo salad, drunken prawn with jellyfish salad
let's just hope the fish didn't come from Japan.
after consulting the air stewardess ('but no worries, if you don't like it we can always have it changed for you'), i've chosen the Main to be:
Braised ox cheek in Burgundy wine with pumpkin puree and gourmet potato
there's a picture of Gordon Ramsay in the menu.
in the meantime they keep feeding us with exciting breads.
14:30 ox cheek was wonderfully tender, and pumpkin puree was gorgeous. 'Finale':
Haagen Dazs summer berries ice cream
Drizzled with bitter chocolate sauce
i approve of 'bitter'. not bitter enough, in fact. and they forgot to mention the delicious sesame wafer biscuit!
14:50 turned down Gourmet cheese with garnishes
munching on grapes and a mini pear instead. stewardess who recommended the ox cheek brings pralines and a pass to the Immigration Fast Track Arrivals Lane.
just read the supper menu for LHR-SIN: Oriental roast duck (!!!), Bailey's white chocolate mousse (!!!)
15:15 the bathroom has disposable toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, razors, sanitary pads, linen face towels, toilet paper folded into a 'V' like in hotels, a vanity mirror, L'Occitane lotions and live orchids. walked past a white family with teenage children. who are these stupid kids?
15:25 where is the remote for the entertainment system?
18:00 i don't understand why everyone is asleep. isn't it daytime in both Singapore and the UK?
21:00 who goes into these bathrooms and constantly folds the toilet paper into 'V's?
23:00Black Swan. The Blind Side. True Grit.
i haven't cried this much on a flight since watching The Reader on the way to the US.
a 15.4" screen really does make a difference. i need to steal these headphones; for the first time ever on a flight i can actually hear the surround sound. also one of these pillows, they're really comfy.
23:05 pillows are by Givenchy.
02:00Black Swan. The Blind Side. True Grit. The Fighter. The Big Bang Theory Season 4 Ep 6: The Irish Pub Formulation. The Big Bang Theory Season 4 Ep 7: The Apology Insufficiency. The Big Bang Theory Season 4 Ep 8: The 21-Second Excitation.
returned from the bathroom to find my blanket neatly folded on my seat.
Starter to 'light meal':
Prawn caesar salad
Marinated prawns with romaine lettuce, garlic crouton, shaved parmesan cheese and creamy anchovy dressing
surprise, surprise -- i chose this Main, despite it sounding the least exciting of the options:
Katsu curry
Japanese style breaded pork served with curry sauce and steamed rice
Finale: Vanilla creme brulee served with mango-sago salsa
i always think i like creme brulee more than i actually do.
02:20 ladies and gentlemen, welcome to London.
